An important distinguishing feature is the maturity of the VMware Cloud on AWS service. The service is widely accepted by customers who have recognized the benefits of the joint and deeply integrated efforts between VMware and AWS over the past 4 years. Examples include seamless connectivity models from local to SDDC, with VMware Transit Connect and Direct Connect. Cluster-to-cluster connectivity is also available through the high-bandwidth/low-latency connectivity model. The service is available in 17 regions, including govcloud. It is supported by a network of more than 600 VMware Cloud on AWS-Kompetenzpartnern and more than 300 ISV-certified communities for each Software Defined Data Center (SDDC) release. Growth and momentum continue, with the total number of VMs multiplied by 3.5 times and the number of hosts by 2.5 times compared to the previous year. VMware Cloud on AWS also offers differentiation in the area of application modernization, where the service is designed to enable deep integration into more than 175 native AWS services. In addition, AWS offers the Windows Rapid Migration Program and Windows ISV Modernization to enable customers to migrate and modernize Windows workloads. AWS Support Response times are separated from each SLAs for service availability.
Response time varies between the 3 available AWS support plans – Developer, Business, and Enterprise. To simplify the comparison, I`ve listed the available response times and related support costs in the table below. Don`t expect a 15-minute support response if you`re only paying for a business support plan! Although, in my experience, aws-support is both fast and efficient. With a new sales agreement, customers can now purchase VMware Cloud on AWS directly through AWS and AWS Partner Network (APN) in the AWS Solution Provider program. This gives customers the flexibility to purchase VMware Cloud on AWS either through AWS or VMware or the AWS solution provider or VMware VPN Solution provider of their choice. Through our partnership, customers can use additional services such as Amazon RDS for VMware. For all RDS instances hosted in multiple Availability Zones (with the “Multi AZ” setting set to “True”), Amazon guarantees 99.5% availability on each monthly billing cycle. This allows up to 3.65 hours of downtime per month. For applications that can`t tolerate this downtime, customers should consider hosting their databases in multiple regions or using another database service like Amazon Aurora, which has a 99.99% availability SLA.
